Coaching is an important part of each chorus and quartet's growth and development vocally and visually. Finding the right coach is key to making a coaching session a positive, productive and long-lasting experience.

It requires a special person with a special talent to be a great coach. Just knowing the craft—which is complex—isn’t enough.

With that in mind, in April Scenic City Chorus was pleased to hear our own Master Director Jen Cooke’s name announced as the winner of the 2017 Sweet Adelines Region 4 Coach of the Year award.

Jen is very active in the Sweet Adelines organization. She’s on the international board of directors, and has served both internationally and regionally in many capacities, including the Young Women in Harmony program. She also sings with Presto!, an award-winning quartet, and makes sought-after learning tracks for use by choruses and quartets.

The Coach of the Year award is determined by Region 4 membership nomination. They had a lot of good things to say. When asked to describe this coach, “absolutely amazing, inspiring, upbeat, knowledgeable, positive, helpful, enthusiastic, sincere, and great at teaching the techniques,” were recurring themes.

As one member put it, “I want to thank you for teaching me how to be a better lead and quartet member. Your knowledge, patience and expertise are great! I’m grateful for your ability to share your knowledge in such a kind, caring and loving way!”

Scenic City Chorus couldn’t agree more!
